Solid Cast Iron Sundials
In the 19th century a trend developed in Britain and America
towards a more affordable alternative to bronze. Cast iron
became this alternative material and was responsible for the first garden art to be mass-produced for the middle class.
Everything from fountains and statues to urns were popular. Although affordable, the trade off with cast iron is that it rusts.
Of course these days, the rust finish in garden art has a large
following and is an important part of the French country and
the shabby chic look.
Our cast iron dials are painted with a base coat, applied with a verdigris finish and then
lacquered to stave off each oxidation.

#2520 Numbers Sundial

A bold gnomon and Arabic numerals contribute to 1950's modernist flair. Could the inscription "Time Flies" be any more truthful?

#2532 Hummingbird Sundial
(7½" diameter) cast iron w/verdigris finish
Hummingbirds sure have a great PR firm working for them. They're a hugely popular motif even in places 1,000 miles away from their stomping grounds. This cast iron sundial has a hummingbird dipping into the flowers. The motif reads, "Time began in a garden."
Technically fits all Rome Sundial Pedestal Bases, but has a very small diameter so really only looks good on #B109.
